Two Poems

by Judith Laura

Wheel of Fortune

There Once Was a Card in a Tarot

There once was a card in a Tarot
Whose maker had cut it too narrow
“Some symbol,” she said
And took it to bed
Where it grew with the speed of an arrow

Death Is Not Death

Death is not Death.
The Moon's not the moon.
I'll tell you your fortune
If you sing me a tune.

The Hierophant pants with fetid breath.
The jumpy dog chomps the Fool's bright clothes.
The Queen of Swords chooses to live alone.
I read your future and hear you moan.
